Description
This plan titled 'A mapp of the land, houses, yards and shoar belonging to Mr M. MacCullough and Mr Robert Robertson lying ... quay and the town of Newburgh' is dated 1734. There are drawings of a ship and ducks. The plan shows the houses, fields and quayside of the new planned village at Newburgh, Fife, on the river Tay. The houses stand at the quay alongside the road to Perth. Grass parks, orchards and garden ground lie behind. Marginal notes detail who each plot had been purchased from and list the occupiers of the new properties and the extent of their share.

Description
A small map of Scotland and its surroundings from 1683 by the French engineer and geographer Allain Manesson-Mallet (1630-1706). Latitude is included and longitude is measured from the Canary Islands; the scale is c.100 miles to the inch. The map comes from the Marischal Collection in the National Library of Scotland. Rather than burghs, the map highlights some hills and lochs, and several rivers. It shows much of Ireland and England, and places Shetland on the main map. The shape of Shetland seems only conjectural, while the Faeroes are placed exceptionally close to Scotland. Additionally, an unusual dotted line runs from 'Leatte L.' (possibly Loch Awe) to the Firth of Tay. The map was published in 'Description de l'Univers'; a German edition followed in 1686.

Description
A French map of Scotland by Alain Manesson Mallet, entitled 'Royaume d'Ecosse'. It concerns mainland Scotland and is partially coloured. The border delineates lines of longitude and latitude. The map appeared in 'Description de l'Univers', published in Paris in 1683, and is now part of the Marischal Collection. The map bears little resemblance to Robert Gordon's 1654 map and is apparently based more on Mercator's of 1595 but without its level of detail. The coastline is strikingly drawn, but is very inaccurate; the interior is labelled primarily with regions though some of the main burghs are included. Mallet (1630?-1706?) was a French geographer and engineer who first served in the Portuguese army and then worked for Louis XIV.

Description
This is Lewis Marcell's 1746 plan for a fort to replace the Fort George which had been on the Inverness Castle site, and was destroyed by the army of Prince Charles Edward Stuart in 1746, just before Culloden (see Charles Tarrant's details of the destruction at shelfmarks MS.1646.Z.02/36a and MS.1646.Z.02/37a). This plan is accompanied by 10 sheets of sections at shelfmarks MS.1647.Z.02/79b, MS.1647.Z.02/79c, MS.1647.Z.02/80a, MS.1647.Z.02/80b, MS.1647.Z.02/81a, MS.1647.Z.02/81b, MS.1647.Z.02/81c, MS.1647.Z.02/81d, MS.1647.Z.02/81e and MS.1647.Z.02/83b. Two sets of plans for a new Fort George at Inverness were drawn up, using the site of the old Cromwellian fort, known as Oliver's Fort (see Louis Petit's map at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.02/78a), this set by Marcell, and a set by William Skinner. In the event, the Oliver's Fort site was rejected, after a claim of compensation from the town of Inverness for the loss of use of their harbour, and the new Fort George was built at Ardersier Point, to another set of designs by William Skinner (see plans and sections from shelfmarks MS.1646.Z.02/39 to MS.1646.Z.02/60).

Description
This sheet is a copy of the sheet of sections at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.02/64b. The pencil note '[M. Read 1795]' on the bottom of the sheet might probably indicates that it was copied in 1795, in which case the copyist would have been William Read, who was a draughtsman in the Tower of London from 1794 to 1795. The original sheet of sections, at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.02/64b, accompanies the plan at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.02/64a, another sheet of sections at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.02/64d, and two maunscript pages of Lewis Marcell's estimates for the work at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.02/64e, all of which were received by the Board of Ordnance, in London, in 1746.
