Subject Place
[Fife, Inverkeithing, Kirkaldy, Leven, Loch Leven, Scotland]
Description
The map shows southwest Fife, including all of the catchment of the River Leven but excluding the vicinity of Culross. It overlaps substantially with Fifae Pars Orientalis in the same Atlas. The towns of the south coast, from Leven to Inverkeithing, are given prominence, as is Loch Leven and Falkland Palace with its associated parkland. This map by Timothy Pont depicts a part of Fife some fifty years before the observations of the same ground by James Gordon for his map published in the same atlas. The two maps provide late-sixteenth century and mid-seventeenth century records. There are substantial differences in the places named. The map was engraved in Amsterdam, for publication in Blaeu's Atlas Novus, first published in 1654.

Subject Place
[Cupar, Dundee, Fife, Scotland, St. Andrews]
Description
The map shows the entire catchment of the River Eden, together with the East Neuk and the lower regions of the River Leven. Coastal towns are prominently depicted, as is Cupar and Falkland, but the high density of small rural settlements in the north is in contrast to the south. This map based on the survey by Timothy Pont was engraved in Amsterdam, for publication in Blaeu's Atlas Novus, first published in 1654. It overlaps with Pont's FIFAE PARS OCCIDENTALIS and like that map, it depicts a part of Fife some fifty years before the observations of the same ground by James Gordon for his map of FIFAE, published in the same atlas. There are substantial differences in the places named.

FIFAE VICECOMITATVS,

[Fife, Firth of Tay, Fo...
Subject Place
[Fife, Firth of Tay, Forth, Firth of, Scotland]
Description
A relatively small scale map showing all of Fife and both shores of the Firths of Forth and Tay. Fife is shown in considerable detail and with greater accuracy than any other map of Scotland in Blaeu's Atlas Novus. The map locates some 430 more places than appear in the two maps by Timothy Pont which cover Fife and were published in the same Atlas. The great density of place names necessitated the use of very small cartographic signs to locate those places. Robert Gordon's manuscript drafts for this engraving, one of which survives in the National Library of Scotland, were probably compiled in 1642. The engraving was made in Amsterdam and first published in Blaeu's Atlas Novus, in 1654.

Description
The map covers most of Kirkcudbright except for the part to the east of the watershed of the River Dee, thus excluding Dalbeattie and parts of the Stewartry on the west bank of the Nith. The map is oriented with west at the top. The drainage pattern to the west of the River Dee is shown in great detail, although the engraver began to depict the River Dee on an erroneous course, north of Loch Stroan, an error which he did not correct. The map was compiled from observation on the ground by Timothy Pont in the last two decades of the sixteenth century. It was engraved in Amsterdam, for publication in Blaeu's Atlas Novus, first published in 1654.

Description
The map covers the entire county of Wigtownshire plus a very small part of southwest Ayrshire, at larger scales than the cover of the same area on Blaeu's GALLOVIDIA. The engraving of the English translation of the title outside the cartouche is an unusual feature. The settlements of the Mull of Galloway and of the south of Wigtownshire are depicted in great detail. Dunskey Castle on the west shore of the Mull is particularly prominent. The map was compiled from observation on the ground by Timothy Pont in the last two decades of the sixteenth century. It was engraved in Amsterdam, for publication in Blaeu's Atlas Novus, first published in 1654.

Subject Place

Description
This is the companion map to Glottiana Praefectvra Inferior, which it overlaps. It shows the catchment of the upper Clyde above the town of Lanark, that is, the southeast part of Lanarkshire. Even in the upper reaches of the Clyde, small rural settlements were evidently numerous, but towns such as Biggar and castles such as Crawford and Douglas are prominent. The site of Lanark is indicated by cartographic signs but the name was omitted by the engraver. The manuscript draft by Timothy Pont, which was the source of this map, was sent to Amsterdam but was returned to Scotland and is now in the National Library of Scotland. The engraving was first published in Blaeu's Atlas Novus, in 1654.

Subject Place
[Argyll and Bute, Colonsay, Island of, Gigha, Island of, Islay, Island of, Scotland]
Description
The map shows the island of Islay and also Colonsay and Gigha, locating them by including small parts of Knapdale and Kintyre to the east and of Jura to the north. The Rhinns of Islay are misoriented, as is Loch Gruinart, so that the island is scarcely recognisable from its shape. There is much detail, nevertheless, of settlement mostly located all around the coast. The map was compiled from observation on the ground by Timothy Pont, in the last two decades of the sixteenth century. It was engraved in Amsterdam, for publication in Blaeu's Atlas Novus, first published in 1654.
