Description
This plan, titled 'A survey of right Honourable Lord Beelhaven's lands of Beel', was drawn in about 1720 by John Kininmonth. There is a dedication to Lord Belhaven and a coat of arms, flanked by rampant stallions with the motto 'ryde through'. The plan shows the estate of Beel (Biel) in East Lothian. To the north of the river are a number of small enclosed parks. To the south are larger parks with scattered farm buildings and a large area of woodland. A key gives the names of different farms and other features. The scale at the bottom of the map is flanked by a mythical creature, possibly a winged horse. The drawing is coloured with small elevations of buildings.

Description
This plan titled 'Draught of Braid's Burn etc.' was engraved by Kirkwood in the second half of the 18th century. It shows an area in the environs of Edinburgh around Duddingston. It has no scale or compass and it is not coloured. Handwritten annotations in red ink mark the line of supply of water from the burns to water cisterns at Comiston and Swanston and show lands to be alienated. The plan may have been drawn to settle a water dispute. Other features of interest include the villages of Portobello and Duddingston, with associated mills, mansions etc. On the coast there is a salt works belonging to Lord Abercorn. Salt would have been produced by boiling and evaporating sea water.

Description
This anonymous map is believed to be the second state of the earliest printed map of Scotland issued as a separate sheet rather than as part of a map of Britain. It was printed in Italy, probably during the 1560s, by the Lafreri school of mapmakers. This was a time when Italian geographers were the foremost mapmakers in Europe. A marginal note dates the map to 1558 with reference to an article in the Scottish Geographical Magazine of 1919. This largely depends on the outline on which Skye and Lewis are shown conjoined. It was probably copied from a map produced in Italy in 1558 by Sebastian di Re, which in turn was based on the map of Britain published by George Lily in 1546. The compass card is also of a type found on Italian maps of the 1560s. It has eight points marked with the initials of the winds in Italian. For example T stands for Tramontana, the north wind and G for Grecco/Grecale, the north-east wind.
