Description:
The ninth in a sequence of plates demonstrating the muscles, is the first of those that show the body from behind. This plate is derived from page 194 of Vesalius 1543 (the landscape and walled town are omitted). A comparison with the plate in Valverde 1559 (f73 recto) does not reveal any definite relationship. However, Geminus' treatment of the ground on which the figure stands could imply such a relationship. It is a later state of the plate in Geminus 1552, ai0054.
