Description:
This plate illustrates two torsos in Roman battle dress with the insides of their abdomens revealed, to the side are separate diagrams detailing the small and large intestines, the rectum and the upper mesentric portion of the small intestine. This is a composite plate. Although some of the figures appear to be original to Valverde, they are in fact derived from Vesalius. Thus, figure V is ultimately derived from page 460, and figure VIIII is derived from page 463 of Vesalius 1543. The other figures are ultimately derived from Vesalius pages 461, 462 and 464. (See Valverde 1559:ai0026, the plate is the same but selectively refreshed).
