Description:
This figure is an illustration of the pituitary gland with the cut-off optic (A, B) and oculomomotor (G, G) nerve stumps . E marks the pituitary of which the legend says: ' this basin collects the phlegm (pituita) which flows from the third ventricle of the brain'. According to Galen, phlegm then passed from the gland to the nasal cavities to be discharged.
