Figure 3 shows three of the middle thoracic vertebrae seen from the right together with a rib and the costo-vertebral joint. Figure 4 shows the posterior portion of a rib. Figure 5 depicts part of the 12th rib from the back. Figure 6 illustrates the anterior face of the breast bone (sternum), and figure 7 shows the posterior face; in each case the costal cartilages have been removed.
