Description:
This figure depicts a the frontal view of the human skull without the lower jaw, resting on the skull of a dog, also without its jaw. Vesalius says in the figure legend that he has shown the two skulls arranged thus so that the reader can more easily understand Galen's description of the maxilla. Galen's anatomical descriptions are generally based on animals and not on Man.
