Title Notes:
This is the earliest engraved title page in an English book. It was used for the 1552 edition and altered for the final edition of the Compendiosa in 1559 in which the royal coat of arms is replaced by a figure probably of Queen Elizabeth (though it has also been claimed to be that of Queen Mary).

Description:
Elaborate title page, with royal coat of arms and figures representing Prudence, Justice and Victory. Similar to title page of Geminus 1552. This is the first edition and the first English printed work with an engarved titlepage. As the engraved title makes clear the copperplate engravings were by Geminus himself. The work is dedicated to Henry VIII.
