Description:
|
The nude figures of Adam and Eve pose; Adam holds the apple and on the ground between them a serpent slithers in a skull. These figures derive from the Epitome of Vesalius (1543) unlike most of the plates which are copied from the Fabrica. In the Epitome, however, the figures are separate plates and are simply illustrations of surface anatomy. Here, Geminus has added the apple and the serpent to transform them into Adam & Eve. The skull is derived from one of the views of the base of the skull in the Fabrica.
