Description:
Figure 1 shows the tongue and its muscles viewed from the right side, figure 2 shows the same view but with the third and seventh muscles bent upwards to provide a clearer view. Figure 3 depicts the muscles of the tongue cut away and the tongue divided in two lengthways. These figures ultimately derive from pages 252 and 253 of Vesalius, 1543.
