Description:
|
Drawn and engraved by Andrew Johnston, this map was based on one drawn by John Senex in 1721, which was itself based on Gordon of Straloch's map. It is an attractive map with a thickened outline defining the shoreline and fine hatching along the coast and on lakes and estuaries. Forests and mountains are shown but as formalised symbols rather than realistic depictions. Longitude and latitude lines are drawn across the map and the degrees north and west of London are marked in the margin.
