Map of the five parishes above Colblean

Description:
This sketch map shows the catchment area of the River Dee and the parishes along it, from just west of Allanquoich downstream as far as Loch Davan and Loch Kinord, just east of the Hill of Culblean. The five parishes featured are Braemar, Crathie, Glengairn, Glen Muick and Tullich, each of their churches being drawn and labelled. The map also notes the borders of Aboyne parish to the north east, and part of Glentaynar parish to the east. The map is dated 1725, which falls between the two Jacobite risings of 1715 and 1745. At this period, it was important for the government in London to know which areas of the north were still Catholic, as they were most likely to support a rising in favour of the exiled, Catholic Stuart monarchy.
