Description:
In this Petition, Buchan asks 'that a new Commission may be issued, directed by some unbiassed Person, ... in case Disputes or Difficulties arise to him anent the Names of Places, (which from what has passed, I have too good reason to believe will happen) ... [and] that the Commissioner named, should be a Person who understands to act by the Help of a Compass, and Theodilet; without which, 'tis impossible to set, with Exactness, the Props in the Moss. The Sheriff was at a great Loss in this respect, and indeed had not a Theodilet with him; so that his Procedure behoved to be but a Sort of Guess-work, ...' (p.4).
