Creator:
Gordon, Robert (b.1580, d.1661)
Creator Role:
Mapmaker
Date:
1634-1650
Description:
A map of the River Forth, devoid of detail except of the headwaters which extend as far west as Ben Lomond, but with greater detail around the north bank tributary, the River Teith, through the Trossachs, Strathyre and Glen Gyle. A note at the foot corrects perceived errors. Much of the map derives from a manuscript map by Timothy Pont now in the National Library of Scotland and the source of the rest of the compilation is likely to be the observations of Pont, in the last two decades of the sixteenth century. The map was compiled by Robert Gordon of Straloch (1580-1661), at an unknown date after 1633.
