Title:
Sketch plan of Brechin Castle with South Esk river, and Skinner's Burn with the Town Yards of Brechin
Date:
1700-1799
Description:
One side of the sheet shows Brechin Castle in relation to both Skinner's Burn and the Town Yards, as well as the South Esk, and the verso shows a detail of the castle at a smaller scale. The larger scale map shows details on the river such as salmon traps and the mill lead, with a depth of 20 feet given for the 'Castle Pool'. Distances are noted along Skinner's Burn, and a 'Plain tree' as a landmark. The height of the 'precipice' between the castle and the South Esk river is noted. The smaller scale map notes measurements for various rooms and parts of the castle, lists names of some features, and shows a well. There is another plan of the yards at Brechin Castle on image 00002147, dated to about 1700.
