Description:
Although undated and unsigned, this appears to be one of Andrew Frazer's maps. It shows the Moray Firth as it passes Ardersier Point to the south and Chanonry point to the north. Fort George is marked on Ardersier Point, and the towns of Fortrose and Rosemarkie on the Chanonry Point side of the Firth. The object of the map is to show the tides and water depths in the channel in front of Fort George. Andrew Frazer was working at Fort George, Ardersier between 1781 and 1786, at times being contemporary with Charles Shipley, who worked with him on the pier. Frazer also worked at Fort Charlotte, Shetland, Leith Battery and Corgarff Castle. Other plans of Frazer's from Fort George, Ardersier, are in images 00002769 (copy in image 00003228), 00002872 and 00002873 (copies in images 00003230 and 00003231) and 00003227. His plans of Fort Charlotte, Leith Battery and Corgarff Castle are also in this collection.
