Description:
This is part of a series of 7 similar sketches and reports, the others being Arbroath, Dunbar, Montrose, Aberdeen, Peterhead and Banff, (3194, 3195/3196, 3197, 3198, 3199 and 3200). The Dunbar report is contained in a letter to Lord Adam Gordon, dated 'Edinburg June 1st 1795', which is signed 'Your Lordships Very obedient H. Servant W.G. Lt. R. Engrs', and has a pencil note 'William Gravatt' added at a later date. The other plans, except the Dunbar one, are fully coloured, and a note with this one indicates that it is an earlier draft of those sent to Lord Adam Gordon. It reads 'These are the Sketches there parts are nearly the same which Lord Adam had only these were the first ones'. A plan of Greenock battery at 3201 may be part of the same series, without its report.
