This letter is dated 'Edinburg June 1st 1795', and addressed to 'Lord Adam Gordon'. It is signed 'Your Lordships Very obedient H. Servant W.G. Lt. R. Engrs'. At a later date a pencil note has been added 'William Gravatt'. It is part of a series of 7 similar sketches and reports, the others being Arbroath, Montrose, Aberdeen, Peterhead, Banff and Campbeltown (in images 00003194, 00003197, 00003198, 00003199, 00003200 and 00003202-3203). A plan of Greenock battery in image 00003201 may be part of the same series, without its report.
