This original manuscript was written in reply to a series of questions circulated by Sir Robert Sibbald in 1682, as a preliminary to the publication of a Scottish atlas. An edition of the manuscript was published by Thomas Maitland, Edinburgh, 1823, in which the author's 'Advertisement' of 1692 (f.40v) appears as a foreword. A sketch of a half-net (f.16) is omitted from the printed version. The title is in the hand of Sir Robert Sibbald.
