Description:
|
This sheet is a copy of the 1720 plans by John Romer at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.03/11a, of two of the four Highland barracks, and the powder magazine at Edinburgh Castle. The original plans for the four Highland barrack forts, Bernera, Kiliwhimen, Inversnaid and Ruthven, were drawn up in 1717 by James Smith, who was the royal chief surveyor, but were actually executed by John Bastide and Andrew Jelfe, and then John Romer, between 1718 and 1724.
