This plan of the barracks being built at Kiliwhimen between 1718 and 1719, seems to follow the plan at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.03/10c, as it shows completed features which were only described as being possible 'if the money answers' on the plan at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.03/10c. There is a copy of this plan at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.03/10a, done by Nathaniel Minshall, a Tower of London draughtsman, between 1758 and 1763. Another plan at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.03/10d also follows the plan at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.03/10c, but is not a copy of this. The original plans for the four Highland barrack forts, Bernera, Kiliwhimen, Inversnaid and Ruthven, were drawn up in 1717 by James Smith, who was the royal chief surveyor, but were actually executed by John Bastide and Andrews Jelfe, and later John Romer, between 1718 and 1724.
