This sheet shows a plan of the barracks in process of being built at Bernera, Glen Elg. There is another contemporary plan of the Bernera barracks by Andrews Jelfe at shelfmark MS.1647.Z.03/05c. The original plans for the four Highland barrack forts, Bernera, Kiliwhimen, Inversnaid and Ruthven, were drawn up in 1717 by James Smith, who was the royal chief surveyor.
