Description:
|
One of a set of four plans of Stirling Castle, the others being on images 00002680, 00002681 and 00002682. Although these are mainly unsigned, the 'Board of Ordnance Register of Plans 1700-1800' lists the architect responsible for all of them as Andrews Jelfe, and the draughtsman as Thomas Moore, and Moore has signed plan no. 2 on image 00002681. There is an unsigned set of plans of Stirling Castle on images 00002705, 00002706, 00002707 and 00002708 which are close copies of these plans, but are dated 1741, and cannot be drawn by Thomas Moore, as he died in 1734. In 1741, many of the earlier Board of Ordnance plans were copied, probably in the Tower of London Drawing Room. This sheet shows the plans for the Governor's and Major's appartments, the Governor's kitchen, housekeeper's room, the infirmary, yard, dovecote, storerooms and woodstore, with the ovens and bakehouse for the garrison, with some elevations.
