Description:
This is a copy of the plan at shelfmark MS.1645.Z.02/12a for the barracks for 270 men, to be built in Edinburgh Castle, designed by William Skinner, in 1750. But this copy is unattributed, so the actual copyist remains unknown. Charles Tarrant frequently worked with William Skinner, as his draughtsman, as well as his surveying partner, but he usually signed his work. The War Office records for the original plan note that this design was not adopted. ? The sheet is in two equal sections. On the right hand section, a plan, elevation and section of a design for the barracks. On the left hand section, a plan of the arsenal.
