Description:
This is the third in a set of five plans of Edinburgh Castle, drawn up in 1719 by the architect Andrews Jelfe and the draughtsman Thomas Moore, the others being on images 00002654, 00002655, 00002657 and 00002658. This plan and its companions have been signed by Moore. This sheet shows plans of barracks, carriage sheds, powder magazine, storeroom, malt kiln and 'laboratoire'. 'Laboratoire' is probably a laboratory attached to the gunners' sections (see 'W. the Powder Magazin X. The Fyreworks Laboratorie' on the 1696 plan of Edinburgh Castle, on image 00003443.) A plan of proposed improvements to the powder magazine is found on the plans and sections of Kiliwhimen and Inversnaid Barracks on image 3028, (copy on 3029), attributed to John Romer, but probably drawn by Thomas Moore.
