Description:
This plan titled 'Part of the estate of Mains possessed by James Grosset' is undated but can be placed within the 18th century. It shows the estate lands of Southwick House (Mains) in Kirkcudbright. The land appears to be enclosed in a pattern of relatively small rectangular fields. A few such as 'new meadow' are named. An orchard is also marked and the size of the main property is suggested by the ground plan of a considerable range of buildings. There are a series of letters on the plan that must have related to a key, now missing, which would have given details of the estate. Roads and a number of farms on the estate are drawn.
