Description:
This plan is titled 'A plan of road leading from Bruntislandto Kirkaldie as it formerly went and as the same is now turned about by Mr Bruce of Grange'. It shows old and new road lines. The road between Kirkcaldy and Aberdour was re-routed by Mr Bruce to avoid ground he had enclosed and gated. It was surveyed in 1740 by Samuel Neilson of Edinburgh. Associated papers relate to a dispute concerning the road. Annotations by Neilson relate that the old road line was shown to him by two old men, formerly horse hirers. They appear also to have given him the name for a group of houses on it as 'Drink Between'!
