Notes Adair's career to date, his appointment by Privy Council in 1682, the lack of a regular income, the Act of Parliament concerning 'the necessitie of a survey of the sea-coast and Isles [1686]', tonnage dues connected therewith, etc. Notes also the purchase of mathematical instruments and the 'bringing over' of Moxon the engraver from Holland 'to whom he paid seventy pounds sterl.' and the navigation of the coasts from 'Sunderland Point in England to Buchan ness in eight large maps including the rivers and Firths of Forth and Tay, lykeways the Firth of Clyde on the west sea in ane large mapp ...'. Mentions an attempt 'some thrie yeirs agoe' [1691] to print the maps by subscription at 20/- shillings per volume, half to be paid in advance on the basis of 6-700 subscribers, but 'of that number not one hundred was procured ...'. With the reply of the Privy Council, 'considering' the work and expense Adair has been put to, appoints a committee to report on the matter.
