Regarding John Adair, Roxburghe writes that she 'shall be very glad that you retrieve Mr Adair's Map of Broxmouth, for I might have had my whole estate survey'd for the money I gave him'. Adair surveyed the garden in 1712 [see NAS: Roxburghe Muniments, NRAS 1100/Bundles 797 (letter of 7 August 1711); 769 (letter of 16 July 1712); 767 (letters of 18 August 1712 and 18 November 1713); and 770 (letter of 28 December 1713)].
