Description:
|
This detail from a manuscript map titled a 'Scheme of the Hill of Fair', drawn by John Wilson in 1739, shows march lines between different landowners' claims to parts of the commonty. One of these is marked as the march between Bilogie and Corsindae. Corsindae, a 16th century towerhouse, was owned by the Forbes family. Bilogie marked on the map as 'alias Grantfield' is the Z-plan castle of Midmar, owned between about 1728 and 1760 by a Captain Alexander Grant who renamed it 'Grantfield'. Buildings are shown in elevation and, distinct from towers with steep roofs depicted elsewhere on this map, are mostly rectangular 1½ storied houses that look surprisingly like the improvement farmhouses usually dated to the later18th century.
