Description:
This is the third state of the map of Scotland published by Christopher Browne of London and based on an earlier map by Robert Gordon. In this state the main title acknowledging Gordon is missing and the sub title only appears in the fine engraved title cartouche. First published in 1705, this map is dedicated to Queen Anne which dates it between 1705 and 1714; it is likely to belong to the latter part of her reign. An inset shows Shetland rather sketchily. Browne took over the publishing of this map from Robert Morden who died in 1703. The copper plates use to print it are known to have still been in use at least twenty years later.
