Description:
|
This plan shows a proposed waggon way running between Coalhill and Alloa shore. It was built in 1768, but Mar did not live to witness it. Waggon roads were built at several collieries in the 18th century. Waggons ran by gravity on wooden rails from the colliery to the shore. They were pulled back uphill by horses. The bridge near Coalhill is detailed on another plan. The notes below the title judge that the scheme is practical as it would not involve cutting through much high ground. The terminal at the shore beside Mr Freebairn's factory is at a point where ships could be loaded safely.
