Description:
|
This 18th century manuscript plan shows lands around Struthers and part of the barony of Cults, Ceres parish, Fife. It appears to be unfinished as there is an empty rectangle, possibly for a title, with a floral border. The plan is coloured and shows the farms and enclosures. An elevated coloured drawing of a mansion, possibly related to Broomknowe is painted to look as if it is on a scroll pinned to the map. The farm of Broom Nau (Broomknowe) shows typical 18th century improvements. It has rectangular enclosed fields, a courtyard shaped farm plan and a mansion with gardens and wooded policies. In contrast, other farms show little sign of enclosure.
