Description: 
This manuscript plan was surveyed by John Tait and drawn by John Gillon in c. 1756. It is coloured with a decorative compass and scale. A cluster of buildings are shown at Kirkhill, near the church and churchyard. The old glebe lands are marked. Other features include the road and a new stone dyke. Many dykes were built during the 18th century land improvements. The land has been divided into arable, pasture and bog, each differentiated by a different colour. Most of the arable was in one block, beside the marl pit which would have been used to extract lime to improve the ground.
