Description:
A small scale map of North Ayrshire, Inverclyde and adjacent parts of Renfrewshire, stretching as far south as Irvine, and showing only drainage and a small number of settlements. The map was compiled by Robert Gordon of Straloch (1580-1661), at an unknown date after 1633. The lochs adjacent to Lochwinnoch and Kilbirnie are drawn again at the foot of the sheet. The source of the compilation was the observations of Timothy Pont, in the last two decades of the sixteenth century. The map is an extreme example of Robert Gordon's tendency to reduce the scale of Pont's compilations.
