Description:
|
The larger of the two maps on this sheet covers northwest Fife, west of Falkland and mostly north of the River Eden. The map was compiled by Robert Gordon of Straloch (1580-1661), at an unknown date after 1633. The source of the compilation was the observations of Timothy Pont, in the last two decades of the sixteenth century, but it is evident from notes on the map that Gordon was critical of his source. The smaller map, pasted on to the larger sheet, shows northwest Fife between Elcho Castle and Balmerino Abbey, as far as south as Wedersbie Hill, Mount Hill and Mountquhaine House. It was compiled by Timothy Pont from observations on the ground in the late sixteenth century.
