An outline map of the Howe of the Mearns compiled by Robert Gordon of Straloch (1580-1661), at an unknown date after 1633. It extends from the River Dee in the north to the South Esk River in the south, locating only some twenty-five named places from Stonehaven to Brechin, mostly with prominent signs indicative of their significance in the mind of the author. The main source of the compilation is likely to be the observations of Timothy Pont, in the last two decades of the sixteenth century.
