Description:
A map of the Mull of Kintyre to the south of Tarbert and of the island of Gigha. It was compiled by Robert Gordon of Straloch (1580-1661), at an unknown date after 1633. The sole source of the compilation is the observations of Timothy Pont, in the last two decades of the sixteenth century. This is evident from the comparison of Gordon's neat manuscript map with Blaeu's engraved map of Cantyra, published in his Atlas Novus in 1654 and clearly credited to Pont by the engraver. Both Gordon's and Blaeu's maps derive from the same source by Pont, but Gordon's map is slightly inferior in respect of numbers of place-names.
