Description:
A map of the Central Highlands, from Loch Ness and Loch Garry in the north, to Loch Linnhe and Appin in the west and to Loch Rannoch and Loch Tummel in the south. There is settlement detail in Lochaber, notably along the River Spean, whilst the country around Loch Ericht has diagrammatic representation of hills and woods. The map was compiled by Robert Gordon of Straloch (1580-1661), at an unknown date after 1633. The orientation of the lochs is appreciably different to other maps of Lochaber by Gordon. The western part of the map more closely resembles a map by Timothy Pont, compiled in the last two decades of the sixteenth century and now in the National Library of Scotland.
