Title:
[Plan of Edinburgh Castle 1725]
Creator:
Moore, Thomas (active 1719-1734)
Creator Role:
Draughtsman
Date:
1725
Description:
This plan of Edinburgh Castle was drawn by Thomas Moore in 1725. However, the Board of Ordnance Register does not say whether he also did the surveying. Interestingly, it is written in French. There is another copy of this plan, probably contemporary, but written in English, in image 00002615, and a later copy done in the Tower of London Drawing Room, written again in French, in image 00002616. It shows a line plan of the castle imposed on a 3-dimensional representation of the contours of the Castle Rock. The drawing is coloured with relief in brown and buildings in red. The upper part of the High Street of Edinburgh is also shown in plan, but not labelled, as well as the path leading to it, and paths down the cliffs.
