Title:
Scheme of the hill of Fair as surveyed and protracted by Jo: Wilson
Creator:
Wilson, John (active 1714-1746)
Creator Role:
Surveyor
Date:
1739
Description:
This manuscript plan was surveyed and drawn by John Wilson in 1739. It shows the commonty of the Hill of Fare, Aberdeenshire. Roads and the main boundary are coloured. This hill ground would have been rough grazing, used in common by the tenants of the surrounding landowners. In the 18th century many commonties were divided between the landowners. This map shows march lines for such a division. Cairns are marked in some detail and compare fairly exactly with prehistoric burial cairns which still exist. Their position in relation to burns and the details of the watercourses suggest the plan is remarkably accurate.
