Description:
|
The map shows the entire catchment of the River Eden, together with the East Neuk and the lower regions of the River Leven. Coastal towns are prominently depicted, as is Cupar and Falkland, but the high density of small rural settlements in the north is in contrast to the south. This map based on the survey by Timothy Pont was engraved in Amsterdam, for publication in Blaeu's Atlas Novus, first published in 1654. It overlaps with Pont's FIFAE PARS OCCIDENTALIS and like that map, it depicts a part of Fife some fifty years before the observations of the same ground by James Gordon for his map of FIFAE, published in the same atlas. There are substantial differences in the places named.
