Description:
The map shows southwest Fife, including all of the catchment of the River Leven but excluding the vicinity of Culross. It overlaps substantially with Fifae Pars Orientalis in the same Atlas. The towns of the south coast, from Leven to Inverkeithing, are given prominence, as is Loch Leven and Falkland Palace with its associated parkland. This map by Timothy Pont depicts a part of Fife some fifty years before the observations of the same ground by James Gordon for his map published in the same atlas. The two maps provide late-sixteenth century and mid-seventeenth century records. There are substantial differences in the places named. The map was engraved in Amsterdam, for publication in Blaeu's Atlas Novus, first published in 1654.
