Description:
|
This map entitled The South Part of Perthshire containing Perth, Strathern, Stormount and Cars of Gourie was engraved and published in 1725 by Herman Moll (1654? - 1732) as part of the Atlas of Scotland. It shows roads, topographical features and settlements. Perth is shown as a burgh with a network of roads but no bridge. A stone bridge had been built at Perth in 1616 but was swept away in 1621 and was not replaced until the 1760's. Some roads are marked with parallel lines, less definite routes are marked with dashed lines. Many routes would have consisted of unmade tracks. The Scottish road system only began to improve after 1724 with the road building work of General Wade.
