Description:
A map of Renfrewshire and the north part of Ayrshire ('Cunningham'), from Herman Moll's 1725 atlas of Scottish counties. The two areas are divided by a dotted line. Notable features include the siting of waterways, particularly the 'Dunbarton Frith' and the 'Clyd R[iver].' A road to Glasgow, labelled with the number 16, runs through the south-east of the map, and in the centre is Kilbirnie Loch which, states John Moore, has 'the east-west orientation given in the Blaeu atlas.' John Moore, from his studies of Renfrewshire and elsewhere, suggests that the maps in the atlas were essentially 'poor reductions of those in the Blaeu atlas' of the mid-17th century.
