Description:
|
A map of Loch Duich, Loch Long and Glen Shiel, with the upper reaches of Loch Alsh foreshortened, so that the coastline in the lower left corner is the east coast of Skye. Apart from the streams flowing into the two named lochs, the only detail is of settlement in Glen Shiel and along the south shore of Loch Duich, as well as a prominent Eilean Donan Castle. The map was compiled by Robert Gordon of Straloch (1580-1661), at an unknown date after 1633. The main source of the compilation is likely to be the observations of Timothy Pont, in the last two decades of the sixteenth century.
