Description:
|
A small coloured map of Scotland from 1688 by Robert Morden entitled 'Scotiae Nova Descriptio' or 'The description of Scotland'. It was published in the second edition of his 'Geography Rectified' and is a near copy of Robert Gordon's 'Scotia Regnum' of 1654. The map is divided into traditional regions such as Lothian, Carrick and Argyll. It includes detailed latitude and longitude; a list of places denoted by number or letter begins in the bottom right corner and is continued in the top left corner. This map also appeared in Patrick Gordon's 'The Geographical Grammar' of 1693. Morden (d. 1703) was a cartographer and map seller based in London who also published 'The New Description and State of England' (1701).
