Description:
A map of the Hebrides published by George Humble in London in 1627 in England, Wales Scotland and Ireland described by John Speed. It was reprinted in later editions until 1676. The map had been engraved by Pieter van den Keere. In about 1599 Van den Keere had engraved a series of miniature maps based on Saxton's maps which had been published in 1579. These were intended for a pocket atlas which was not published at that time but Humble bought the plates and published them in the 1627 volume. The map is orientated with north to the right and appears to have been based on the outline of Scotland published by Ortelius in 1673. It is delicately coloured with two tones of blue for the sea.
