Description:
|
A map of Scotland produced in 1695 by Robert Morden, a London-based cartographer and map seller. Edmund Gibson published it in a new edition of 'Camden's Britannia'. Notable features include the shape of Lewis, the extended north-east coast, and the coloured boundary lines. This was an improved edition of Morden's 1687 map with a new cartouche, and the prime meridian by then going through London rather than the Canary Islands. Both maps were based on Robert Gordon's groundbreaking 'Scotia Regnum' which appeared in Blaeu's 'Atlas' of 1654. In 1680 Morden compiled 'Geography Rectified' and in 1701 he published a collection of maps of England and Wales in 'The New Description and State of England'. He died in 1703.
